Shinnecock Powwow 2015
For the third year in a row, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing the Shinnecock Powwow in Southampton, LI.
This is one of my absolute favorite events to photograph. The crafts, the food, and the culture all make the experience an unforgettable one. This tribe is close to my heart, so I make sure to clear the entire weekend to photograph the powwow.
In the midst of the Powwow, a beautiful ceremony was held in honor Avery “Chief Eagle Eye” Dennis, who passed away on the 5th of September. Chief Eagle Eye was a lifelong resident of the Shinnecock reservation. His photo was on the cover of the Shinnecock Powwow program this year, which was an unexpected, but beautiful way to honor his spirit at the Powwow.
Take a look at this year’s Shinnecock Powwow… Hope to see you there next year! 🙂
