Shinnecock Powwow 2014
In August, I had the pleasure of photographing the Shinnecock Powwow in Southampton, Long Island. The Shinnecock tribe is close to my heart because my mom is engaged to the chief of the tribe, Dan Collins. I’ve been running around Powwow since I was little and now you can see what the event looks like through my eyes. A Powwow is an annual celebration of their native culture, with over a hundred vendors with handcrafted artwork, clothing, and so many other types of merchandise. There are dancing competitions for all ages with prizes in each category. The food is AMAZING; Indian tacos, stuffed clams, turtle soup, and oysters caught fresh off of Long Island!
